March 22, 2022 – Dennis Lynam was born and raised in Union City, New Jersey and served as a mail carrier in Union City for 15 years. While delivering mail in the local community, Lynam enjoyed building relationships with the residents and listening to their stories. After retiring several years ago, he and his wife, Patricia, moved out of town to enjoy a slower pace of life but he never forgot about his hometown roots, the stories and the people that he met while growing up and delivering mail in Union City.
A devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lynam feels very blessed with his life and wanted to find a way to give back to the community of Union City that gave him so much. Over the past several years, he has been generously donating grocery store gift cards to Catholic Charities. Staff of Catholic Charities in Union City is able to distribute the gift cards to parents in the Supervised Therapeutic Visitation Program, some of whom are struggling to put food on the table.
Supervised Therapeutic Visitation (STV) in Union City, N.J. is a Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark program funded through a grant that works with children and parents who have been separated by The Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P), but are on track for reunification.
While separated, the parent and child have visits that are supervised by Catholic Charities staff. During visits, staff assist families with building parent-child attachments, enhancing parenting skills central to creating competence in their parenting roles, and connecting families to larger systems of support.
Catholic Charities is thankful to Dennis and his wife, Patricia, for their continued support of STV in Union City and the community we serve. Lynam has surely proven “there is no place like home” as he continues to serve his hometown community where he was a mail carrier in for 15 years. Thank you, Dennis and Patricia!
