Special Education
Students participating in the 10-month autism program, are from ages 5 1/2 to 12 years old and come from the surrounding school districts of Essex County. Autism, characterized by atypical receptive behaviors and deficits in social and communication skills, is the most common of the pervasive developmental disorders and affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans. Students in the program benefit from a one-to-one student-teacher ratio, and instruction by experts in autism and Applied Behavior Analysis. Related services such as speech, physical, and occupational therapy; adaptive physical education; sensory integration programs; and parent support groups are also offered.

MCG Cares Center for Early Care and Education
The MCG Cares Center for Early Care and Education provides top-quality early-childhood care in a safe, secure, loving environment for children who are 3 and 4 years old. Open Monday through Friday, 10 hours a day, the program is designed to meet the needs of working parents. Our experienced, trained staff recognizes individual learning styles and optimizes child development, learning, problemsolving, and socialization skills through the Creative curriculum. The MCG Cares teaching staff is trained in First Aid and is CPR-certified. The program provides free, nutritious meals and snacks. MCG Cares works in collaboration with the Newark Board of Education and the Division of Family Development to offer care free-of-charge for preschool-aged children residing in Newark.
